Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:03:41 GMT

By Mia Leimkuhler, The New York TimesI always have mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup in my fridge. Multiples of each, more like it: I have plain mayo and Kewpie, Dijon, whole-grain and ballpark yellow mustards, as well as a bottle of ketchup so large it really counts as two. So this week’s selection of easy and fast recipes features meals that lean on these classic condiments for flavor and depth. (I’m also including a delightful pickle soup recipe because I always have a massive jar of half-sours on hand.)1. Miso-Mustard SalmonIn this single-skillet recipe, miso and Dijon mustard create a one-two punch of salty and spicy to balance the sweetness of salmon and cabbage. Slather the mighty combination on the salmon fillets, sprinkle with sesame seeds for crunch, then roast on top of caramelized, crisp-tender cabbage. Serve with steamed rice or sweet potatoes if you like, then use the remaining sauce to drizzle over everything. The thinned miso mustard is also great to have around as a s...

Editorial: States run out of room for migrants – does it matter?

Gov. Maura Healey blinked. She, like many governors trying to manage the unceasing influx of migrants across their state borders, ran into a harsh reality: there is a bottom to the well.Healey announced Monday that the state’s shelter system will fill by the end of the month. After that the Bay State will not be able to provide housing for families in need as required by law.As she and other governors have learned, there are limits to the number of unhoused people and families that shelters can hold, a limit to the hotels and motels that can put up the overflow, and an eventual limit to the money available to cover the mounting costs of these efforts. As the Herald reported, the Massachusetts shelter system won’t be able to help any further without intervention by the Biden Administration.Good luck with that. New York City Mayor Eric Adams called for Biden to give it a leg up as migrants overwhelmed that city’s shelters, and criticized the lack of substantive action....
