What went wrong in the Warriors’ loss to Timberwolves despite Curry’s 38 points

SAN FRANCISCO — The Minnesota Timberwolves boast the No. 1 offense in the NBA and mucked up the Warriors offense to near unwatchable levels. With no clear scorer other than Steph Curry emerging, the Warriors lost 116-110 to the Timberwolves on Sunday night. The Warriors have now lost three straight and four of their last five games. They are 1-3 at home following a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday and have a 6-5 record overall.“We’re in a little bit of a spell right now, but it’s not like we were the world’s greatest team when we were 6-2 and we’re not the world’s worst team losing the last three,” coach Steve Kerr said. “It’s just this part of the season. We just played two great defensive teams that throttled us.”Curry again led the way with 38 points, but didn’t get much help as the Warriors shot 38.5% from the field and a dismal 27.9% from 3. Minnesota, built similarly to the Cavaliers, forced the Warriors int...Kenan Blackshear scores career-high 31 points, Nevada beats Washington 83-76

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anthony Davis had 30 points and 13 rebounds, Rui Hachimura scored eight of his 19 points in the final 3:43 and the Los Angeles Lakers overcame LeBron James’ injury absence to beat the Portland Trail Blazers 116-110 on Sunday night.James missed a game for the first time this season, sitting out because of a bruised left calf. The leading scorer in NBA history injured his shin in a collision with Kevin Durant during the first quarter in Phoenix on Friday night.Although James returned to that game, the Lakers decided to rest the 38-year-old star Sunday for their long haul ahead, including back-to-back games starting Tuesday night.James’ supporting cast couldn’t pull away from Portland, but Davis took charge down the stretch for the Lakers, scoring nine points in the fourth quarter while Los Angeles held on in its first game back from a 1-3 trip.Cam Reddish scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half for Los Angeles, which held a 13-point lead early...Cricket World Cup final four includes the hosts, the 5-time champions, 2 contenders. But no England

MUMBAI, India (AP) — Host India, five-time champion Australia and long-time title contenders South Africa and New Zealand navigated the five-week first phase of the Cricket World Cup to reach the semifinals. When the tournament got underway on Oct. 5, few could imagine a final four that didn’t feature defending champion England — the World Cup holders in both the one-day and Twenty20 formats. But that script went awry on opening night as New Zealand beat England by nine wickets in rematch of the 2019 final that was only decided four years ago on a countback of boundaries after the game and a Super Over finished tied. The England squad lost six of its first seven games and sat in last place on the 10-team standings until putting together back-to-back wins over Netherlands and Pakistan to finish a 3-6 record and in seventh place, one spot behind Afghanistan. Then there was 1992 Pakistan, which stayed in contention for a top-four spot until the penultimate day of league stage but ultimatel...Dos políticos del partido Movimiento Ciudadano se registran como aspirantes a la presidencia de México

Former U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May shared a photo on social media of a gathering of the current and former British PMs on Remembrance Sunday — with one notable absence.Liz Truss, who also attended the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph war memorial in London, appeared to have been cropped out from the photo posted by May on social media. The photo posted by May featured current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his predecessors Boris Johnson, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and John Major, as well as May herself. In photos posted by others, Truss, whose famously brief premiership lasted just 49 days, can be seen standing next to Johnson.“Each year on Remembrance Sunday, we assemble at the Cenotaph to honour the sacrifice of the fallen and pay tribute to the servicemen & women we place in harm’s way,” May wrote. “Today — as every day — we will remember them. #LestWeForget.”It is tradition for all current and former prime ministers to pay th...Mike Preston: Ravens, exposed as work-in-progress in loss to Browns, can’t be trusted yet | COMMENTARY

Ravens fans made a mistake if they booked airline and hotel tickets for the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Most fans became giddy last week when the Ravens routed the Seattle Seahawks, but that perspective changed Sunday after a 33-31 loss to the Cleveland Browns before an announced crowd of nearly 70,000 at M&T Bank Stadium. After last week, the Ravens had supposedly become this monster with a quarterback who was going to win the NFL Most Valuable Player award and a record-setting defense that was as good as the famed 2000 group that led the team to a championship. But the voice of reason kept saying, hold on, be patient, and let’s see where this ends. So, if you’re out of a few hundred to a thousand dollars, you can always get a refund.Or better yet, be patient. Some thought the Ravens started to peak a week ago, but it’s way too early. Sometime in December we’ll find out exactly how talented this team is and how far it can go in the postseason. But right now, don...A contest erupts in Uganda over the tainted legacy of late dictator Idi Amin

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Can Idi Amin be rehabilitated? The question is animating some in this East African country two decades after the death of one of Africa’s most infamous leaders.Amin, who took power by force in Uganda in 1971 and ruled until he was removed by armed groups of exiles in 1979, died in Saudi Arabia in 2003. His passing was barely acknowledged in Uganda, and some of Amin’s supporters over the years have unsuccessfully lobbied for his remains to be returned home, underscoring his tainted legacy.Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, whose rebel group was among those that ousted Amin with the help of Tanzanian troops, regularly dismisses Amin, and once even described him as “a primitive dictator.” There are no monuments to Amin in Kampala, the capital, where not even a street is named after him.But some Ugandans want to change that — not to emphasize Amin’s tyrannical rule but to highlight any positive aspects of it, including what they say was his commit...Nations gather in Nairobi to hammer out treaty on plastic pollution

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Efforts to create a landmark treaty to end global plastic pollution advance Monday in Nairobi as most of the world’s nations, plus petrochemical companies, environmentalists and others affected by the pollution gather to discuss draft language for the first time. It’s the third gathering in a compressed five-meeting schedule intended to complete negotiations by the end of next year. Power dynamics and positions became clear in the first two rounds of talks in Paris and Punta del Este, Uruguay and echo some of the same positions as in international climate talks, and with good reason — many of the players are the same. Plastic is largely made from crude oil and natural gas, giving oil-producing countries and companies a large stake in any treaty.Global negotiators last met in Paris in June and agreed to produce initial treaty text before reconvening in Nairobi. The draft was published in early September. The U.N. Intergovernmental Negotiating Committ...Rescuers dig to reach 40 workers trapped in collapsed road tunnel in north India

LUCKNOW, India (AP) — Rescuers were digging through dirt and parts of a collapsed road tunnel Monday to reach 40 workers trapped by a landslide at the construction project in northern India. All of the construction workers are safe, police officer Prashant Kumar said, adding that they have been supplied with oxygen and water. He said the rescuers had established contact with the trapped individuals. The collapse occurred Sunday in Uttarakhand, a mountainous state dotted with Hindu temples that attracts many pilgrims and tourists. Massive construction of buildings and roadways have taken place in recent years in Uttarakhand. The trapped workers were building part of the Chardham all-weather road, a flagship federal government project connecting various Hindu pilgrimage sites. The number of workers trapped was confirmed Monday by Rajesh Pawar, the project manager at the Navyug Construction Company, which is overseeing the construction of the tunnel.Rescue efforts began Sunday, with aut...Latest news
