Man barricades himself inside West Hollywood apartment after shooting woman: LASD

A man who allegedly shot and injured a woman in her 50s inside her West Hollywood apartment Friday morning is now barricaded inside the building, authorities said. The incident was reported about 8:15 a.m. in the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a noise complaint, officials said. A woman in her 50s was eventually transported to a hospital, but the extent of her injuries remains unclear. The bullet that struck her apparently had gone through the a wall, authorities said without elaborating. Amid the response, a Sheriff’s Department SWAT helicopter landed on La Brea Avenue, blocking traffic in the area, aerial video from Sky5 showed."SEB personnel will assume tactical command and Crisis Negotiation Team will attempt to make contact with the suspect to bring this to a peaceful resolution," officials said in an update. The lobby of a Los Angeles Police Department station in Exposition Park is closed indefinitely after a man walked in with shopping cart lit with flames late Thursday, officials said.The incident occurred around 11:25 p.m. at the LAPD’s Southwest Station, located at 1546 W. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Friday released a multi-point plan to address gun violence impacting communities across Los Angeles and the United States.At least 128 mass shootings have occurred across the nation this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. At least 13 of those shootings happened in California, the database shows.In 2022, L.A. County saw 382 homicides; a gun killed three-fourths of the victims in those incidents.Officials who worked on the Gun Violence Prevention Platform developed 40 different strategies to address gun violence, including intervention, prevention and healing.
