(BCN) -- A 33-year-old man has been convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of a San Francisco Department of Public Works employee who was painting over graffiti when he was shot in the city's Mission District in 2016, prosecutors said Tuesday. A San Francisco Superior Court jury found Michael Higginbotham guilty of the murder charge and allegations involving the personal use of a firearm and firing the gun from a vehicle in the killing of Jermaine Jackson Jr., 27, as Jackson painted over graffiti on an electrical box near 25th and Vermont streets on Nov. 30, 2016, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The Big Ten is hiring former Major League Baseball executive Tony Petitti to be its next commissioner, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Tuesday night.The person spoke on condition of anonymity because a deal was still being finalized. ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A deadly fire ripped through an Arapahoe County apartment complex early Saturday morning. The families displaced from Ivy Crossing Apartment Homes are now expressing concerns about losing the little they have left. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, they arrested two men Sunday around 8:15 p.m. on criminal trespassing. The two individuals, 32 and 21 years old, were found trespassing inside the burnt building. The Sheriff's Office said there was no evidence of looting or theft found at the time of the arrest, but displaced residents are still left unsettled. A death investigation is underway after the possible remains of an infant were found outside a Revere apartment building, state and local officials said Tuesday night. State police said Revere police patrols responded around 6:23 p.m. to a building on Dolphin Avenue after officials said a man found the remains. 7NEWS sources said the infant was found in a bag near a trash barrel. Sources also said it was unclear whether the child was a boy or a girl. The scene was roped off as of around 9 p.m. after officials said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will take custody of the possible remains for “further forensic examination.” One resident living close to the area where the baby was found said investigators spoke to her, asking whether she had any cameras on her property. “It’s scary,” the resident, Nicole Weinstein, said of the situation. “It’s awful.
