Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:57:31 GMT

(NEXSTAR) — With multiple viruses and even bacteria going around this time of year, there’s a good chance you or someone in your household has fallen victim to illness recently. You may even be among the unlucky people experiencing a lingering cough. Before you reach for a cough drop or a dose of cough medicine, you may want to consider all your options. As annoying or even painful as a cough can be, it sometimes serves a purpose. Coughing is your body’s reaction to something irritating your throat or airways, Mayo Clinic explains. The main viruses that are currently spreading — COVID, the flu, and RSV — can all cause you to cough. Other infections, like pneumonia or bronchitis, can cause chronic coughing, as can a number of other illnesses and conditions. Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:57:31 GMT

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Residents living on Gnarl Drive in Northwest Hills have dubbed their street "Santa Clause Lane" and it's for good reason.Anyone driving down the road will be greeted with multiple oversize inflatable Santas as well as other fun Christmas decorations. Kayla Christie said a neighbor living down the street from her came up with the idea, and from there, the rest was history. Christie said she bought multiple inflatable Santas and handed them out to some of the neighbors as well. "We really dub it "Santa Claus Lane" now," Christie said. "Next year we will probably have a sign up that says "Santa Claus Lane." More and more of the neighbors, as they started coming up, really enjoyed seeing it and wanted to participate. It is just really fun and delightful."Ainsley Christie said she hopes to see this tradition continue for years to come. "I think it is really fun," Ainsley said. "I think it is funny that we are all kind of matching. Most of the time no one really drives do...

Working Strategies: Books to get you thinking about work and fun

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:57:31 GMT

Amy LindgrenIf you’re a reader, then you already know that books come in all stripes and flavors. Whatever issue you’re working through, whatever curiosity has overtaken you, or whatever hour you’re trying to kill, there will be a book out there somewhere to help.As someone who gobbles up books indiscriminately, I have a lot of random items in my collection. Although I do have an e-reader, somehow the print experience appeals to my tactile nature. Hence, the afore-mentioned collection.Following are some titles I thought I’d share, each with some connection to a job search or vocational theme — but none of them guides for actually conducting a job search or improving your career. Those can come after the new year, when we all get serious again about being serious.FictionWe’ll start with the fiction, which is always fun. I won’t burden you with extensive descriptions, since that dims some of the joy of discovery. A few of these are old, so you may have to check online for a batt...

The army said more than 700 people with alleged ties to the militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have so far been sent to Israeli lockups.Israel declared war after Hamas gunmen stormed across the border on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 people and taking some 240 hostages. The Hotline is delighted to provide Pac-12 fans with a regular dive into the recruiting process through the eyes and ears of Brandon Huffman, the Seattle-based national recruiting editor for 247Sports. He submitted the following report on Dec. 21 …The early signing period is a wrap, thus completing most of the heavy lifting in the 2023-24 recruiting cycle.Despite the transfer portal wrestling away much of the December intrigue from the high school recruiting process, the talent still has to come from somewhere. So let’s take a look at the Pac-12’s biggest winners and losers from three important days.Loser: Colorado. Yes, we know Coach Deion Sanders wants to focus on the transfer portal. But only six high school signees? That won’t cut it, no matter how many transfers are brought in. Convincing five-star offensive tackle Jordan Seaton to sign his letter-of-intent saved the Buffaloes’ class from being a complete and utter disaster. But even with Seaton, a produc...
