PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN)-- "Findings were related to neglectful supervision, sexual abuse, and physical abuse that were perpetrated by foster parents and household members with victims ranging in age from 2 years old to 16 years old." That's an excerpt from a letter of intent from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) sent to Lonestar Social Services (LSS), earlier this month. KXAN got a copy of the letter, which notified LSS that HHSC plans to revoke their permit to be a child-placing agency. The letter follows another one sent by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services in April, terminating the department's contract with LSS due to other violations, according to that letter. It also comes as the HHSC office of inspector general investigates LSS. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Texas House members in charge of the impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton hired two of the most high-profile defense attorneys in Texas, at $500 per hour, to prosecute the case. Those attorneys’ payments could easily hit six figures and potentially go higher, according to records obtained by KXAN and a legal expert.Contracts with attorneys Dick DeGuerin and Rusty Hardin show they, and each of their attorneys working on the case, will earn $500 an hour. The contracts do not note a maximum value or tiered payment structure for different types of attorneys and employees. The attorneys’ teams will also be eligible for expense reimbursements, according to the contracts, which expire Oct. 31 unless canceled sooner.David Coale, a Dallas appellate attorney and legal expert, said the payments to Hardin, DeGuerin and their teams will escalate into the hundreds of thousands, and could potentially exceed $1 million. However, that amount of money – for top-flight lega...Recipe: Fire up the grill – for Barbecued Mediterranean Pizza with Basil Oil and Ricotta

Grilling can and should be a year-round endeavor. But summer seems to be when we up the ante, becoming self-proclaimed barbecue masters seemingly overnight. We get saucy with new marinades and rubs, boost burgers by experimenting with different meats and accompaniments, and work in our farmers market finds, putting everything from berries and stone fruits to vegetables and cheese over hot coals. This vegetable-heavy pizza recipe uses a pizza pan on the grill. A pizza stone also works great, and we’ve also cooked pizzas (with pre-baked crusts) right on the grates. Cherise Ayers made it clear that this is not an official change. As the principal at Central High School in St. Paul, she knows that word scares people. Even for something seemingly as harmless as the Central Minuteman mascot.“That’s not what’s happening here,” Ayers said. “It’s not like the old mascot Marshall is being replaced by the new mascot Malcolm. We’re not replacing anything. This is just something that we’re now including it as a part of the story.”That something is a new rendering of the Central Minuteman. Though the school isn’t getting rid of the longstanding Marshall — depicted as a white man carrying a musket like the minutemen in the Revolutionary War — it plans to use the modern Malcolm in certain spaces as a way to better represent the student population.Dom Haeussermann, 16, shows a T-shirt bearing the new Central High School mascot design at Central High School in St. Paul on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. London Series HistoryMajor League Baseball first agreed to back-to-back years of international series in London in 2018. These were initially expected to be held in 2019 and 2020 at London Stadium, a venue originally constructed for the 2012 Olympics. The 2019 London Series went on as planned, featuring one of baseball's best rivalries with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
