A tiny library comes to Glens Falls' Crandall Park

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) - At Crandall Park, there's something new between two benches by the playground. Kids can come home with some new books after a long day of playing, thanks to a new, tiny library open for public use. Crandall Park's new little free library was announced on Facebook last week by the park beautification committee. As with any library of its kind one might find in front of a home or business, it's free for use by anyone who wants to give or take a book. ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- A record 24 million acres in Canada have been destroyed due to the ongoing wildfires. Forest rangers with the state's Department of Environmental Conservation just returned home after spending two weeks battling those flames. Our Capitol Correspondent spoke with those rangers and has the latest on how New York is being affected by the flames. "Pretty much that was the gist of our two week assignment was, seek and destroy hotspots. And we did it really well. I think we showed Quebec what we can do. I think they appreciated everything we did," said Gary Miller, who was in charge of a 20-person crew while in Canada. GLENMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Saturday morning, multiple fire departments responded to a house fire at a residence on River Road in Glenmont. Firefighters arrived and observed heavy smoke and fire condition coming from a second-floor bedroom. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Members of the Selkirk Fire Department started fire suppression. The fire was contained in one room. All of the occupants made it out of the house before firefighters arrived. One resident was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.The Selkirk Fire Department was assisted by the Delmar Fire Department, Elsmere Fire Department, Slingerlands Fire Department, North Bethlehem Fire Department, and the Delmar-Bethlehem EMS 2. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. ELLISVILLE, Mo. -- Police are asking the public to stay away from a juvenile coyote spotted near the entrance to the Tartan Green subdivision. A man was pulled from a lake at Magic Johnson Park in Willowbrook Monday afternoon after apparently jumping in.The incident was reported around 12:40 p.m. at the park located at 905 E. El Segundo Boulevard after the person never resurfaced from the water.Video from the scene showed several law enforcement and Fire Department vehicles around the lake.Around 1:45 p.m., crews could be seen pulling a man out of the water. Firefighters were doing chest compressions before the man was taken from the scene in an ambulance. Areas across Southern California are seeing record-high temperatures due to the heatwave that began scorching the region late last week. Locations that set records on Sunday include Lancaster Airport, where the 110 degrees recorded there was hot enough to eclipse the record of 109 degrees set in 1960, and Sandberg, California, where the quarter-century old record of 98 degrees was beaten by Sunday’s high of 99. 81-Year-Old Woman Injured in Single-Vehicle Collision near 22nd Avenue SoutheastPUYALLUP, WA (July 17, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, a driver was arrested after crashing into a woman’s home on 23rd Street Southeast.The incident occurred just after 5:50 a.m., near 22nd Avenue Southeast on July 13th.Per reports, the driver of a black Hyundai veered off the road and crashed into the bedroom of an 81-year-old woman.Investigators say the driver was heading east on 23rd Avenue SE and lost consciousness. The vehicle then traveled down 22nd Street SE before hitting a fence and coming to rest against the back of the residence.Medics arrived and transported the elderly woman who was inside the home to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
