GLENWOOD, Wis. (AP) — A suspected drunken driver shot and killed a Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop before running into some nearby woods and killing himself, authorities said Sunday.During a conversation about field sobriety tests, Jeremiah Johnson was “evasive,” drew a handgun and shot St. Croix County Deputy Kaitie Leising in Glenwood, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) east of Minneapolis, the state Department of Justice said.“After being struck, Deputy Leising discharged her weapon three times, but none of the rounds hit Johnson before he fled to the nearby wooded area,” the agency said.People in another vehicle began lifesaving measures Saturday, but Leising, 29, was pronounced dead at a hospital.An hour after the shooting, an officer heard a gunshot in the woods and saw Johnson, 34, fall to the ground, investigators said.Leising was hired by St. Croix County in 2022 after she spent approximately two years working for the sheriff’s office in Pennington ...Corrective to May 5 story on new Enbridge tolling deal

Quebec’s Public Security Department says water levels are declining across the province, but the spring flood season is not yet over.The Outaouais region in western Quebec and the Laurentians region northwest of Montreal remain the most affected parts of the province.In Outaouais, 23 municipalities have been affected by flooding, while 18 have been affected in the Laurentians.Flooding is also affecting municipalities in the Lanaudière region, north of Montreal, and the Montérégie region, south and east of the city.The Public Security Department says the situation is improving and that some rivers that spilled their banks have now returned to their normal courses.The department says that flooding has forced 625 people from their homes in 88 municipalities across Quebec.11 taken to hospital after rollover crash in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A total of 11 people were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe following a rollover crash in Peoria Sunday.According to Peoria Battalion Chief Jeff Hascall, the crash happened at the intersection of Knoxville and E. Corrington Avenues. Fire crews arrived at the intersection and found a vehicle flipped on its side with someone still inside. ST. LOUIS – Two teenagers died overnight Sunday in a quadruple shooting in the Hyde Park neighborhood of north St. Louis City.According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred just after 1:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of Branch Street.Officers found one victim, an 18-year-old female, in the 1900 block of Agnes Street. A second victim, a 17-year-old female, was located inside a residence in the 2000 block of Agnes. A 52-year-old man died inside the federal prison in Littleton Saturday and a second inmate was taken to a hospital for treatment during the incident, according to a news release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.Warren Morgan was found “unresponsive” inside the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) Englewood in Jefferson County, the agency said in the release. The statement did not say how the man died, but said staff unsuccessfully attempted to save his life. A second prisoner was also found unresponsive during the incident was taken to a hospital for further treatment.A bureau spokeswoman declined to answer questions Sunday about what happened to the second inmate or offer any details on how Morgan died.The news released noted that no staff were injured and there was never any danger to the public.
