With Halloween less than two weeks away, perhaps it was appropriate that the Minnesota Wild was beaten by what appeared to be a phantom goal on Thursday.Pierre-Luc Dubois scored twice in the last minute of the first period to break a 2-2 tie, the first of which he appeared to have kicked through Marc-Andre Fleury’s legs, and Minnesota never recovered in a 7-3 loss at Xcel Energy Center.Connor Dewar, Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek scored for the Wild, and Fleury stopped 21 of 26 shots.Former Wild goaltender Cam Talbot, who was traded after the Wild signed Fleury to a two-year contract extension in July 2021, stopped 30 shots for the Kings. After pulling within two goals on Eriksson Ek’s third period goal, the Wild pulled Fleury with just under 3 minutes to play and Los Angeles added a pair of empty-net goals. The Kings rallied from a 2-1 deficit, getting the go-ahead goal late in the first period when Dubois beat Connor Dewar for a blind outlet pass from Kevin Fiala and somehow ...High school football: Defense delivers big plays in Centennial’s 9-0 win over Rosemount

The Centennial football team entered its regular-season finale Thursday night looking for a bit of revenge. And its defense assured the Cougars got it.Centennial twice held Rosemount without a score after fumbles by the Cougars on their first possession of both the first and second half, then forced a big turnover late in a 9-0 win in Circle Pines.A first-half touchdown run by senior quarterback Daylen Cummings and a fourth-quarter field goal by Keaton Frase were all that was needed as Metro-North champ Centennial improved to 7-1.The Irish (4-4) were the team that ended the Cougars’ season a year ago, defeating them 27-0 in the Class 6A state quarterfinals.Neither team scored in the first quarter, though Rosemount had its chance after recovering a fumble on the Centennial 38.But the Cougars defense turned the Irish over on downs on fourth-and-8 at the 23.Centennial then marched 55 yards to score on a 3-yard run by Cummings with 4:08 to go in the first half. The extra point was blocked...50 years of Schenectady's "The Way We Were" film

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) - One month ago, a new era dawned for the Illinois criminal justice system. No longer would people have to post money to get out of jail. Some hailed it as a way to even the playing field. Others decried it as opening the doors to the jails. But here in central Illinois, an informal service of attorneys and sheriffs has indicated that really, not much has changed. A new era dawns in Peoria County as No Cash Bail comes to local courtrooms "The past month has pretty much gone as expected," said Peoria County State's Attorney Jodi Hoos, who, along with her colleagues around the state, helped to craft the rules regarding the elimination of cash bail. The veteran prosecutor also noted that for the most part, judges are seeing the "same types of cases that they did before. We just removed cash from the equation."Added McLean County Sheriff Matt Lane, "With the preparation we did and the training we did before this went into effect with our officers and our correction...Michael Malone rejoins Nuggets in Los Angeles after father’s death; Denver expects Michael Porter Jr., Christian Braun back for season opener
