LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Everton paid the price for a slew of missed chances by conceding in the 73rd minute to Bobby De Cordova-Reid in a 1-0 home loss to Fulham in the teams’ Premier League opener on Saturday.A new campaign brought new hope for Everton, which has fought to avoid relegation in recent seasons. But for all the improvements that manager Sean Dyche has made over the summer, it appears he has not yet solved Everton’s problems in front of goal.De Cordova-Reid tapped in at the far post after Andreas Pereira slid in to get a cross over to the winger.Everton — the Premier League’s lowest scorer last season — was again without striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and generated twice as many shots (19-9) as the visitors.Michael Keane’s first-half goal for Everton was disallowed as the center back turned the ball into an empty net and celebrated almost apologetically before referee Stuart Attwell, having initially not blown, ruled there had been an infringement in the co...Edouard’s second-half goal gives Crystal Palace 1-0 win over Sheffield United

SHEFFIELD, England (AP) — Odsonne Edouard’s goal early in the second half earned Crystal Palace a 1-0 opening win at Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday to worsen the gloom at Bramall Lane.Edouard struck from close range four minutes after the restart in a game that Palace largely dominated. Jordan Ayew found a good position on the right-hand side and sent in a tricky low cross which Edouard stabbed in from close range.Roy Hodgson’s Palace had two further goals disallowed, while Blades goalkeeper Wes Foderingham made a number of saves to keep his side in the game.Sheffield United’s return to the top flight after two seasons away ended with a poor defeat to compound a negative few weeks which saw the sale of Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge. Manager Paul Heckingbottom acknowledged before the match that his team is “nowhere near” where they need to be, though the signing of Gustavo Hamer from Coventry overnight had boosted the mood.___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soc...Fernando Villavicencio y Rafael Correa, enemigos acérrimos. SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) — A new pack of gray wolves has shown up in California’s Sierra Nevada, several hundred miles away from any other known population of the endangered species, wildlife officials announced Friday. It’s a discovery to make researchers howl with delight, given that the native species was hunted to extinction in California in the 1920s. Only in the past decade or so have a few gray wolves wandered back into the state from out-of-state packs.A report of a wolf seen last month in Sequoia National Forest in Tulare County led researchers to spot tracks, and collect DNA samples from fur and droppings, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Researchers concluded that there is a new pack of at least five wolves that weren’t previously known to live in California: an adult female and her four offspring. The pack is at least 200 miles (321.8 kilometers) from the next-nearest pack, which is in Lassen Park in northeastern Cali...Pierre Poilievre wants to rebuild a ‘broken’ Canada but first must fix his own image

It is one of several the party rolled out this week as part of a campaign, worth more than $3 million, throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall. The ad seeks to sell a hopeful message: Canada can be fixed — and Poilievre is the leader to do it.But first Canadians need to trust him.All prime ministerial hopefuls need to convince voters they are worth their time, but Poilievre faces a different challenge. He rubs too many people the wrong way, although recent polling has some in the party optimistic. The ads are an attempt to boost his image at a time when Poilievre approaches...Latest news
