Big dreams of an Asian mall, but the future of the St. Paul Sears site is up in the air after back-to-back sales A sports and digital arts-focused charter school that would come complete with an adjoining community sports complex. A wellness center. A “3D theme park” geared toward entrepreneurs. A hotel, housing and parking ramp. And an international designation as the cornerstone of a “World Cultural Heritage” corridor. All of that could, in theory, take root on St. Paul’s Rice Street, alongside food courts, a mix of housing and other new additions to the shuttered Sears department store near the Minnesota State Capitol building. The future preservation and redevelopment of the Sears building remains uncertain following back-to-back property sales this spring, but new owners are advertising ambitious and wide-ranging plans hand-in-hand with local partners from the Twin Cities Chinese and Southeast Asian community. They are the latest concepts in a decade-long progression that has seen the 17-acre site reimagined every few years for a varying mix of office, retail an...

Vegas oddsmakers peg Gophers-Hawkeyes rivalry game to be near last year’s record low scoring Las Vegas oddsmakers don’t appear to have learned a lesson.Last year, the over/under point total for the Gophers-Iowa game was set at 31 1/2 points — the lowest total for a Football Bowl Subdivision contest since betting lines started to be tracked in 1995, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.The Hawkeyes beat Minnesota 13-10 at a bitterly cold Huntington Bank Stadium last November, coming in a touchdown and two-point conversion below the over/under. The house lost money to those who didn’t see many points scored in last year’s Battle for Floyd of Rosedale. With Minnesota and Iowa’s offenses struggling again this year, the over/under has been set a notch higher, at 32 1/2. The 24th-ranked Hawkeyes (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) are five-point favorites over Minnesota (3-3, 1-2) for the 2:30 p.m. Saturday game at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.On Monday, Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck praised the Hawkeyes’ formula to win games: play lights-out defense and strong special teams while their offen...

What ‘Bare Minimum Monday’ gets right about easing stress at work By Taryn Phaneuf | NerdWalletTikTok trends don’t lie: Whether they’re “quiet quitting” or adopting “Bare Minimum Monday” to combat the “Sunday scaries,” people are pulling back at work.In one sense, making work a smaller part of life is a permanent shift that people working from home experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, says Cristina Banks, an industrial and organizational psychologist and director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Healthy Workplaces at the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business. While working from home, people had more autonomy. They also had a clearer idea of the value of their time, which they could spend exercising or playing with their kids rather than sitting in traffic on their way to the office. After many workers had that experience and are now being pushed to return to pre-pandemic norms, Banks says it’s hard for them to give up control over when or how much they work. So, some workers embrace trends like Bare Minimum Monday, which ...
