This criticism includes the cold, unattractive apartments built where the mobile home park used to be. There are examples of newer builds that honor our rich historic region, such as mission styles, and some that resemble the beautiful architecture of our century-old buildings, such as some that Julia Morgan designed. The flat roof lines and boxy glass structures are everywhere now. Leaked video shows Antioch cops fire dozens of shots at man as he runs away  ANTIOCH — New video taken by a civilian shows four Antioch officers firing dozens of shots at a 30-year-old man as he runs from them, adding new flame to the city’s most recent police controversy. The video of the Oct. 1 police shooting, taken from a nearby balcony, shows Antioch officers fire several times at Antioch resident Daniel Mackin as he runs from them. After Mackin runs out of the frame, the officers fire more than a dozen shots at Mackin. Police have said that Mackin pointed a gun at the officers when they shot. The video does not show Mackin pointing a gun at the officers when they fire the initial shots. He runs with one hand visible and another one tucked in or near his hoodie, and several officers and two dogs run behind him.The video shows Mackin run from a van away from the pursuing officers, one of whom stumbles and falls during the pursuit. As the first few shots are fired, two of the pursuing officers slow down, possibly to avoid being caught in t...

Dust collected by Apollo 17 mission shows moon’s true age By Ashley Strickland | CNNLunar dust collected by Apollo 17 astronauts in the 1970s has revealed that the moon is 40 million years older than previously believed. After landing on the moon on December 11, 1972, NASA astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt collected rocks and dust from the lunar surface. A new analysis of that sample detected zircon crystals and dated them to 4.46 billion years old. Previous estimates put the moon, formed by a massive celestial collision, at 4.425 billion years old.The findings were published Monday in the journal Geochemical Perspectives Letters.“These crystals are the oldest known solids that formed after the giant impact. And because we know how old these crystals are, they serve as an anchor for the lunar chronology,” said senior study author Philipp Heck, Robert A. Pritzker Curator for Meteoritics and Polar Studies at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, in a statement. The early days of our solar system — when Earth was still for...

Pratt also offers searing critiques of Trump’s personal ethics.CNN previously reported that Pratt gave an interview to special counsel Jack Smith, who charged Trump with mishandling national security materials by hoarding dozens of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Release of two more hostages gives some hope to families of others abducted in the attack on Israel The release Monday of two more hostages is offering some hope to the families of the more than 200 people the Israeli military says were seized by Hamas militants. The two Israeli women, 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz and 79-year-old Nurit Cooper, were snatched from their homes in Nir Oz, a kibbutz near the Gaza border during Hamas’ Oct. 7 rampage into southern Israel. Their husbands were not released. Their release follows the freeing Friday of an American woman and her teenage daughter. How a service dog in training is supporting Leesburg police

How a service dog in training is supporting Leesburg police The Leesburg Police Department in Virginia had long toyed with the idea of a wellness program involving a dog for officers, so when Officer Kristine Rzewnicki came across the nonprofit Thin Line Service Dogs over the summer, she was sold.Rzewnicki filled out an application to become a volunteer and help train a puppy, starting a process she anticipated would help her colleagues. And then, she learned she’d be getting a 1-year-old golden retriever.Mooney, named after Stafford County Deputy Sheriff Jason Mooney who was killed on the job in 2007, has only been on the job for about two weeks, but Rzewnicki said his presence has already had a significant impact on some officers.Unlike some police dogs trained to escort officers in the community, Mooney’s main job is supporting officers within the department. Sometimes, in the event of a “critical incident,” such as a pediatric patient who codes or an injured officer, Mooney will leave the office to support Rzewnicki’s colleagues in the f...

Sean Payton finding it hard to enjoy what little he has to celebrate in first year as Broncos coach DENVER (AP) — Count Sean Payton among those who wonder why the Denver Broncos’ first-year coach can’t ever seem to enjoy himself. After chewing out his defensive coordinator on the sideline and snapping at a reporter from the podium following Denver’s 19-17 win over Green Bay, Payton finally had something to celebrate in Denver with his team’s first win after three losses at Empower Field.“Sometimes it’s hard to be pleased or not upset, you know,” Payton said Monday. “You want to play your perfect game and that was a good win for us and yet I’m driving home last night, you know, heading to get sushi — I don’t like sushi — and finding myself circling around the parking lot like, ‘All right, why can’t I be happy?’“Well, you’re searching for the perfect game, and so I’m just that way. I’m gonna wear my emotions on my sleeve.”Hold up, before we go any further. Why is he going to a sushi place if he’s not a big ...
