Bear bites sheep herder's head in attack DENVER (KDVR) -- A 35-year-old man was attacked and severely injured by a bear Tuesday morning near Durango.At around 1 a.m. a sheep herder working at a sheep grazing allotment on the San Juan National Forest said he was awoken by a disturbance involving his sheep and a black bear, according to a release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. There were bite wounds to his head, left hand and arm, and severe lacerations to his left hip area and scratches on his back.After the attack, he managed to crawl back to his tent and contacted his cousin. He was then airlifted to Mercy Regional Medical Center where CPW said DNA samples were collected.He was treated at that hospital but was then flown to Grand Junction for surgery.According to CPW, this bear attack is the first reported this year in Colorado and the first in La Plata County sin...

Man accused of shooting a gun at a business in Broomfield charged with attempted murder BROOMFIELD, Colo. (KDVR) -- A man accused of shooting at a Broomfield eatery appeared in court and is facing a long list of charges including attempted murder.The 17th Judicial District Attorney said the alleged shooter, Kenneth Fairchild, is also facing several charges for incidents in other cities.Fairchild was formally charged with more than 30 counts including attempted first-degree murder, arson and illegally discharging a firearm.Fairchild is accused of firing a bullet at the Jus Burritos restaurant on U.S. 287 on Saturday. A bullet hit a window and sent customers and staff running for cover. Man dies after shooting at Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth A 25-year-old New Bedford man died Wednesday after a shooting at Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office announced. The DA’s office said state police troopers first responded around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man shot with life-threatening injuries. On scene, the DA’s office said troopers learned the shooting happened after a fight broke out in a picnic area within the state forest. The DA’s office said the person who was shot was hit several times and was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  “This was not a random act of violence and there is no threat to the public,” the DA’s office said. An investigation was ongoing as of Wednesday night as authorities continued to search for the person who pulled the trigger in this incident.This is a developing story; stay with 7NEWS on-air and online for the latest updates.
